Shoalhaven Superheroes Volunteer Service & Beyond Awards
The Shoalhaven Superheroes Awards recognise the unsung heroes of the NSW South Coast — volunteers whose dedication and service make our community stronger. Presented by Superheroes Events Limited as part of the BerryPOP festival, these awards celebrate individuals who go above and beyond without expectation of reward.
Who can be nominated
Any volunteer aged 18 or over who resides in or serves the Shoalhaven local government area is eligible. Nominees may work in any field — community services, emergency response, health care, youth mentoring, environmental conservation, disability support, aged care, or any other form of voluntary community contribution. Self-nominations are not accepted; nominations must be submitted by a third party who can speak to the nominee's impact.

How to submit a nomination
- Gather supporting details — the nominee's full name, contact information, the organisation or cause they volunteer with, and a written account (200–500 words) describing their contribution and why they deserve recognition.
- Complete the nomination form — available for download here once the nomination window opens. The form asks for your details as nominator, the nominee's details, and your written submission.
- Submit by the deadline — late nominations cannot be accepted. Deadline dates are announced alongside the form.
After submission, the SEL awards committee reviews all nominations against a published rubric covering: length and consistency of volunteer service, demonstrable community impact, endorsement quality, and the nominee's embodiment of the Superheroes spirit. Finalists are notified prior to the awards ceremony.
What winners receive
Winners are honoured at the BerryPOP Charity Gala Dinner, held each November at the Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club. Each recipient receives a framed certificate, a Superheroes medal, and formal recognition in the festival program and local media. Past winners have also been offered ongoing ambassadorial roles with Superheroes Community Care — representing the charity at community events and helping to inspire the next wave of volunteers.

Can I nominate more than one person? Yes, there is no limit on submissions per nominator.
What if my nominee doesn't win this year? You are welcome to re-nominate them in a future year, ideally with updated information about their ongoing service.
Do nominees need to attend the ceremony? Attendance is encouraged but not required. Winners who cannot attend will receive their award by arrangement.
