About the Shire of Berry Potter

Superheroes Events Limited (SEL) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run ACNC Public Benevolent Institution with DGR1 charity status. Its mission is to make the Shoalhaven South Coast the Superheroes Capital of NSW and Australia.

SEL launched BerryPOP, the Shire of Berry Potter, in November 2014 to celebrate everything Harry Potter, alongside the Berry POP Culture Charity Expo — the first ShoalPOP festival event, held in the township of Berry, NSW. In July 2015 an invitation for J.K. Rowling to become Honorary Patron of the Shire of Berry Potter was sent, co-signed by founder and originator David Arakie, Patron and Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Joanna Gash, Patron and Kiama MP Gareth Ward, and the Hon. Mike Baird MP, Premier of NSW.

Superheroes Community Care was established in October 2020 to front the company's own growing charitable fundraising activities around Australia. SEL's festival activities and events in NSW raise funds to sponsor short accommodation stays for families with chronically ill children and families requiring benevolent assistance at the Supanova Superheroes Community Care Country Retreat.

SEL sponsored and hosted the Quidditch Australia national QuidCamp tournaments at Berry Sport and Rec on 6–7 February 2016 and 11–12 February 2017. In 2016/2017 SEL established Kidditch as a new Guinness World Records category, and in 2017 Guinness World Records approved SEL to hold the first official Largest Kidditch Tournament. After two postponed attempts, the inaugural official attempt was held on 31 October 2017 at Vic Zealand Oval, Shoalhaven Heads, NSW. In early 2019 Guinness World Records confirmed the attempt was successful; the winning Kidditch team was Berry Public School. Then NSW Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres MP was Patron of the attempt and, in that capacity, announced Kidditch as a sport. SEL remains the Guinness World Records Kidditch World Champions.

The inaugural SOBP Kidditch World Cup Tournament was held on 22 November 2019 at Berry Cool Nursery, Coolangatta, NSW, and was won by Bomaderry Public School.

At the SOBP Charity Gala Dinner, Shoalhaven Superheroes South Coast Festival Patron Patricia White ratified "this unique and exciting Superheroes Events Limited and Shoalhaven City Council initiative" — the NSW and Australia first declaration recognising and claiming postcode NSW 2535 as the boundary area of the Realm of the Shire of Berry Potter, with Berry as the Township.
